Palestinian Hip Hop

Yes it exists... no the beats and lyrics aren't subtle but as all the young Israeli fans attest it's da dope and there's enough of them getting into it .. Palestinian hip hop has topped the charts a couple of times in the past 12 months in Israel and looks to continue to do so for the forseeable future. Check out this piece on Dateline a current affairs show on Australia's SBS channel. You can download the video and read the transcript.

12 Apostles is impressed that one of the few ways for young Arabs & Israeli's to communicate with one another is via a American cultural form which has been completely debased in its country of birth by money.

Want to know more about Arab Hip Hop.. why not try the Iron Sheikh's links page.

Or you can go to the Arab Rap website where they have a Palestinian rap cd comp for sale. If you live outside Palestine you buy it from some guy in Nazareth.

Whilst we're on the subject of hip hop from around the world check out Senegal Hip Hop from Dakar. You'll need to get your head around reading in French for some of the site.. but it's got loads of stuff and as far as I can work out there's a lot of African hip hop artists working in NYC at the moment.

Goulburn Poultry Fanciers Society & Other Stuff

This guy's a bit of a polymath... first of all we've got a t-shirt range at Victime de Monde and then the best dj / act name we've come across in ages Goulburn Poultry Fanciers Society and if that isn't enough he can also be Rank Sinatra

Expect to see one or t'other at a 12 apostles night later in the year

and if that isn't enough there's System Corrupt or 777

Grey Tuesday

yesterday was nominated Grey Tuesday by activist music site Downhill Battle.com where they've listed all the sites that you can download the Grey Album from.

Do it now before those emi bastards get to them...

Brings back the heady days of the pistols doesn't it !!!

The Path To MP3 Enlightenment

Take a look at this allegorical cartoon adapted to Online Music Fun from an original drawing (issued in 1913 by The Etude) that depicted the path to musical education success.

The cartoon is peppered with all the MP3 Links you could ever want.

White + Black = Grey

Thanks to JJJ in Australia we've got to hear about DJ Dangermouse's latest project The Grey Album where he's taken the lyrics from JayZ's Black Album and then sampled beats, guitar lines etc from the Beatles legendary White Album

The one track we heard sampled while my guitar gently weeps is the best beatle mash - up we've yet heard

This sent us straight back to www world to download more... and on 1st listen what we've managed to find is just as good.

Sadly you won't find the whole album anywhere ( even online as far as i can work out) EMI have sent out a cease and desist and Dangermouse indicates that there's only 3,000 of them out there.

If you get hold of one let me know I'll buy it off you

Ready To Remix Kerry

We thought we'd better follow up on our Howard Dean piece by giving you access to some of John Kerry's frankly quite dull speeches.

Is anybody out there game to remix and muck around with him.

Here he tells Bush where to stick it on the war & international relations and the Real Deal speech.

We challenge you to do something that keeps us awake.

Need That Retro Electro Sound

Maybe this is the site for you Vintage Synth.com

Synth heads can drool over pictures, reviews, real audio files and lots of switches and buttons.

Then when you've made your music send it on to the 12 Apostles.. before you know it you've got an underground vinyl hit and then in the blink of an eyelid you're grabbing Sting's testicles at the Grammy's. It's that easy.

Freqs - Come Home To Web

This is what should happen when an underground label updates their site. Plenty of visuals, some stupidity and loads of free previews of their music... three big hurrahs for U Freqs

It's not often that Bondi Apostle takes out 10 minutes to check a site update but I'm a sucker for sheep being sucked up by UFO's.

Band Of The Moment

2004 has thrown up its first band of the moment, Glasgow art school based Franz Ferdinand

The UK media love them , they are crawling into the lower echolons of the UK singles charts and the debut album has just been released.

As always the journos are bandying around names like josef K to confuse the punters.

Here at Bondi apostle central we say think part Strokes, part Fall and a return to the Fuck Art Let's Dance(although we are all actually artists) aesthetic.

This apostle has only heard the Take Me Out single and is fairly smitten... let's hope they enjoy their time in the limelight.

The Google Of Sounds Has Arrived

Thanks to Skrufff.com for pointing us to this... the search engine find sounds.com allows you to search for free mp3 samples on the web.

They've even got an index to help you out. I must admit I got no results on the word Hardcore shame ... but when I searched George Bush I did get a result giving me a loop of George of the Jungle !

If you are looking for animal noises... they have them all here.

You Know It's All Over When....

Now you can log in to find out about full moon parties in Koh Phangan.

There's lots of different types of music for everyone you musn't take drugs and you can check out the schedule to find out when the next one is

What sort of full moon party is that ! Bondi apostle remembers never knowing where or when until about half an hour beforehand, too many things to ingest that you shouldn't but most importantly you'd only get one really bad italian/ german/ israeli dj who'd ensure you'd had enough of the whole affair by 1 in the morning.

The North will rise again

You can't keep a good self-publicist down. The latest move to free the people of the North-west from the age old oppression of London was struck today by Tony Wilson and Peter Saville. As part of the campaign to establish a regional assembly for the North-west of England the boys have developed a new flag for the region. You can see the flag here. All we need is The Fall to record a new regional anthem and the assembly is in the bag!

The Scream Remixed

It's been a couple of weeks now and the remixers have been busy on that famous Howard Dean scream speech.

Here are the apostles favourites.

The best of the bunch is Lizm's Hey Yaaaaa! mixing Outkast's top pop hit with that now famous scream... this should get an official release.

The Crystal Method mix

Gangsta Style by Lil Jon

This one is mixes the personal with the political

Orenzero has Dean screaming while the Bushwacker repeats his mantra over metal guitars

and where would we be without the AC/DC version!

Want more just visit this page and scroll down... I've had enough.

Blog Techno Remix

What is he on about? I hear you ask.

Well now that you can audio blog it wasn't going to be long before somebody tried to use the tool to make music.

Here we have an mp3 of Biz Stone doing his audio blog thing with a mid nineties techno(ey) soundtrack.

Ok so it's early days and people are just working their way around ways to use the software.

We'd love to hear from anyone who's created something decent musicwise using audio blogger... if it's good enough we'll live up to our tag line Analogue Solutions For A Digital Age and commit it to vinyl.

Let's be hearing from ya...

Failed In The US, Failed In Europe... Let's Try The Australian Courts

The Australian record industry is trying where the others have failed (we hope this fails as well) and have with the Aus federal police raided the offices of Kazaa and the private home of Sharman Newtwork's MD.

Read all about it in the New York Times

It's the normal story... Kazaa have become the world's largest file sharing service so the Recording Industry have decided it's time to cut them down to size and guess what, even if they do manage to restict users access to their service users will go somewhere else and another service will pop up.

When will these industry exec types work it out... we know they are stupid but this endless banging the same drum really highlights their idiocy.

How about something novel... working with the file sharing service providers to create a system that is equitable for the companies, the artists and the public and while you're at it why don't you all take pay cuts.

Rotten Hangs Out In Hippy Haven of Northern NSW

Although the whole of Britain might be aware of the fact, most Australians wouldn't have the faintest idea that the punk's punk mr John Lydon is currently on set with a bunch of other nobodies somewhere in qld participating in the latest UK reality/game show I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here

Check out John's bio here and you can also see the man in action on the video page

What most poms don't know is that this realistic depiction of hell in the jungle is actually just an upmarket camping trip for most Aussies and also we gather that the remote jungle hideaway is actually only minutes away from a 5 star resort outside Murwillumbah.

Finally.. John, when it's all over we suggest you take a short side trip to Nimbin there you can assail hippies to your heart's content

Hot Show

Apostle readers have been telling us that one of the top shows at this year's Big Day Out has been ex frontman of Can Damo Suzuki.

We hear a rumour that he might be playing the Hopetoun in Surry Hills on Sunday night.

useless Can fact - John Lydon is/was a big fan

Shout, Shout, Let It All Out

Mieskuoro Huutajat (Men's Choir Shouters) was formed in 1987 in Oulu, Finland, by a group of young men who clearly had nothing better to do. The idea was to dress 20 or so men in black suits, white shirts and black rubber ties, and train them to shout some of the most beloved songs in the Finnish vocal cannon. It certainly looks like an awesome spectacle to behold (AVI). Oh yeah - they also do the odd international favourite such as The Star Spangled Banner (MP3).

Cutting Edge ?

NYC's latest thing so we're told are the Scissor Sisters.

Released this past week is their interpretation of the Floyd's Comfortably Numb.

We haven't heard it here at the apostles as we couldn't get a connection ... so let us know what it's all about if you hear it.

On The Other Hand

You could go for John Peel's Festive 50. We note that the favourites are still slipping in The Fall / Half Man Half Biscuit and where would Peel be without an Undertones track.
By the way... expect to see a festive 50 listing on vinyl with the 12 apostles sooner rather than later .. can you guess which one?

Triple J Listeners Jus' Wanna Rawk

Australia's yoof have chosen .... and they wanna rock.. check the Triple J Hot 100 where Melbourne based Jet snatch the no.1 spot and a few others as well. The White Stripes seem to have about half a dozen placings... you'll have to wander down to the 70's and 80's before the dance acts really start kicking in

And Now On The Wheels of Steel.... You

How better to pass a few minutes on a cold wet northern hemisphere Sunday than indulging ones baser turntabalist instincts?

Enter The Mixer

Well - maybe by putting together your very own homage to Bruce Lee over at the Ultrainteractive KungFu Remixer.
