And Yet More Bootlegging...

Hot on the heels of the London Booted project where a number of online music types got online for Culture Deluxe and re-booted the Clash's London Calling comes effort no.2 ParkSpliced which as the name more than obviously suggests re-works the Blur Parklife album.

Although I'm constantly told thet bootlegging is dead it's good to see people still doing this stuff. I reckon ParkSpliced doesn't work as well as London Booted .. that said these are the five albums that need this treatment

Never Mind The Bollocks
Electric Ladyland
Trout Mask Replica
The Modern Lovers
Unknown Pleasures

Please call me when they're ready

Avalanches Haven't Gone Away They're Just Resting

Melbourne's fabulous Avalanches are still with us it's just that they don't like to shout about it... check this url punch in BRAINS and see some wild live footage combined with the latest sounds coming from the band... It sounds as though they've gone 21st century Pet Sounds on us.. let's just hope that it isn't Smile

Bzzz Bzzz Bzzz.. The Bees Are Back

This apostle was a great fan of the Bees first collection a couple of years back.. some of the in between 7"s showed a slight dip in quality but now they are back with a vengence with Free The Bees.

Triple J have got it as their featured album of the week at the moment and I jus' love it.. makes me think of a funky Traffic.

Unfashionable But Still With Us

Noticed how bootlegs have become very unfashionable over the past 12 months?

Partly the bootleggers fault due to endless boring mixes of the same artists. Still I reckon it's worth keeping an eye out on all the posting sites for the every now and then genius or fun.

Over the next couple of weeks I'll do some trawling to see what can be found.

First up is without doubt the 20 years bootleg anniversary of the Clash's London Calling from the Culture Deluxe site. We gather they've already had over 200,000 downloads here. All tracks have been done by different artists and it's great. The second best bootleg thing this year after Dangermouse's Grey Album. Go to this page and download now.

On the London Calling project my favourite is DunProofin who does a great version of brand new cadillac. Check this tune where he pairs new brit sri-lankan sensation MIA With the Jesus & Mary Chain. This is the 2nd time the Reid boys have been used to good effect this year ( first time - Lost In Translation soundtrack) I think their stars are on the rise again.

I quite like DJ Cal's re-working of Depeche Mode's & Johnny Cash's Personal Jesus on his site Robootlegs. It's more of a layering job than a cut and edit but it works for me.

This bootleg mix doesn't do too much for me but I love the name Too Many JD's

DJ Tripp takes some Fat Boy and mixes him with the B52's & Felix Housecat sort of fun

This appeals to my sense of humour Rebel Without A Banjo Public Enemy meets duelling banjos...and.. from the same guy Beastie Boys Meet Lynard Skynard

Deep Disco Force gives 80's soul funksters Imagination a make over. This track always reminds me of a summer camping holiday in Cannes in the very early 80's so I've had to include it for nostalgia's sake.

E-Jitz take Empirion's Narcotic Influence and team it up with Britney & the Progidy. Bit 2001 for me but I gather the scene likes it.

Here's an oldie but a goodie.. Osymyso's respectful take on Eastenders in the track Pat'n'Peg

Day of Rest?

Who'd have thought it but UK club / promoters, Sunday Best have been around for almost a decade now .

They've been doing the alternative englishy summer psychedelia dub chill dance thing for a while and i'm reminded of them for the first time in ages because of a wonderful little double 7" that I recently managed to get hold of where Lee Scratch Perry meets the incrdible string band at Traffic's studio.

The site is worth a visit, they have a new track out on the label called happy which according to the video is all about the wonderful benefits of tea... how terribly english!

The New New Brit Scene

Just appeared on my record deck is the 7" from Neils Children. They love UK psych rock, syd and all the real nasty early UK punk stuff. I love the 7" and I reckon they'd be it live.. I just hope they never release an album

Get The Hump

We hear that Sydney's new band du jour are the Camels. We've not heard them yet but they seem to be getting a lot of press at the moment.
