Digging Through Those Old 7"s

Came across Pure Hell's version of , These Boots Are Made For Walking, amongst my 7"s the other day.

This apostle had always loved the version and the very cool cover picturing a bunch of black punks all in black leather. In my younger days I thought this band would have to be one of the coolest on the planet all on the strength of one piece of vinyl.

Twenty odd years later I still had no idea who they were.. so as always it's time to google and this is what I came up with.

Yet again another dead punk....

Best Doors Remix Ever ?

As most of you will realise, everytime somebody tries to remix the Doors it all goes horribly wrong. I've tortured myseld many a time buying copies of 12"s purporting to update the excitement of the doors...it's never worked until now. Try out Bossa Rocker which really twists Break On Through into a 21st century dancefloor killer.

Howlin' At The Moon

Hey all you Britishers... do you still love your Deep Purple Live In Tokyo LP.

Well... if you do check out Sydney's latest rock export Wolfmother. They are going to be in London at the end of the month doing a few gigs.

I haven't seen 'em yet... I'm just wondering if they are as hairy as they sound.

DJ's We Love

While the world is falling apart..Peel death, Bush back in the whitehouse etc there is at least something positive to report and that's the wonderful partnership of Lars & Alex who combined make Ollo They just dj'd Bondi Apostle's in the country allnighter. Lar's chroeographed ending to the silent showing of To Catch A Thief won't be forgotten for a while.

Modular's Travelling Circus

Modular are a coll org who have their finger on the pulse of underground funky Aus at the moment... who else can say they represent The Avalanches and the Bumblebeez

Anyway they are putting together a little east coast tour, featuring Colder (French icy cool dude), Cut Copy(OMD meets early depeche mode at a crazy party), The Presets( Aus rock goes heavy beats) and some local DJ’s in one room, and The Avalanches BRAINS Nightclub On Tour in the other.

They say These two rooms combined make the biggest and baddest reason party with your pants down this year. We hope to see you there.

Bondi Apostle Misses Peel Too

I was upset when Malcolm Owen died, Sort of upset when Ian Curtis died and although not the greatest Clash fan somehow Joe Strummer's demise left a gap.

But for Peel to go it just isn't fair. They should have invented some drug just to ensure that he lived to 200. Like many other he was the soundtrack to my teenage years. Where else would I have heard, The Basement 5, The Dodgems, The Dancing Did, Jah Thomas, Southern Death Cult and The Not Sensibles. And where else would my friends get their music aired.

Although I'm Australia based and have been for the last decade the first thing I'd do of an evening on return to blighty would be to tune in to R1 just to hear those tones and the never ending love for the Fall, Half Man Half Biscuit, Capt Beefheart and of course, Liverpool.

Most unfairly i'd just managed to get broadband so I could listen to the show on a regular basis again and as always his wonderful taste led me to an Austrian website to buy a Ukrainian house track.

Please please BBC find someone with the same lack of ego to entertain and enlighten us for another 40 years.

By the way.. the next 12 apostles 12" will be dedicated to Peel and one of his favourite bands of 1978.
