Grime Frapp
We've just received our first review through on our latest release on the 12 apostles label.
Undercover Magazine write in their Garage Reviews Section.
ROC Journey To The Centre Of Brixton 12 Apostles
4/5
"Preposterous bass and stark, stinging handclaps create a turbulently grimy atmosphere for ROC’s celestial female vocal to do its best on this tale of approaching psychosis delivered with a close up intimacy that sets it apart from the Missy meets Wiley off-kilter type weirdbeat template its borrowing from. You could even call it grime-Frapp."
Also
Gigwise.com say:
"Crashing cymbals, broken beats, slashes of guitar and electronic jiggery-pokery lend a fitting sense of hands-in-the-air menace. Evoking Mezzanine-era Massive Attack it's a train worth hopping on to get from A to B."
Totally Radio in Brighton are giving the track the Thumbs up>
1. St. Deluxe - Distant Light (Grundioso) 2. Two Gallants – Las Cruces Jail (Saddle Creek) 3. Clearlake – Good Clean Fun (Domino) 4. Jim Noir - Tower of Love (My Dad) 5. Metronomy - You Could Easily Have Me (Holiphonic) 6. Shychild - The Noise Won’t Stop (Good & Evil) 7. Hockey Night - For Guys’ Eyes Only (Lookout) 8. Death Metal Is A Gruesome Business
Tonight on BBC 2 they'll be screening this docco about evil death metallists and their influence on the kids some of whom are stupid enough to take all that growling seriously enough to go out and start slaughetring others.
Makes you wonder that if by 2042 we will be looking at all of this with a tinge of fond nostalgia... ahh! do you remember the good old days of death metal when we used to do those lovely ritual killings, this new new wave of death metal revsionism just isn't the same is it.
Here's another suggestion why not start a reality TV show where young death metallists fight to the death with young jihadists .. both wearing their tribal clothes ... imagine the spinoffs. |

No Music Day
Bill Drummond has a simple but effective idea .
A day celebrating zero musical input .. imagine no cafes with crap soundtracks, no bad hip hop blaring from cars and no Wiggles in our household. |

Art College Wankers Are Wankers
Remember the late 70's and early 80's ( sadly we do here at the apostles)
If you mentioned that you went to art school at the local pub it meant open season for having the shit kicked out of you and then the 90's came along and it was cool to be art college again (unless of course you were Oasis)
Check out this little Soiree at St Martins where they are celebrating 30 years since they pulled the plug on an uninvited Sex Pistols.
Of course they remember it differently and St Martins lore now places them at the birthplace of punk and we presume the dreaded britpop as well.
Once you've checked the poster at the link you'll see a number of little comments that make them so obviously NOT punk.
First they sing the praises of Glen Matlock Sex Pistol blah blah blah. Wasn't he the wanker that liked the Beatles and Abba.. I thought they'd dumped him for a far more superior bass player!
Two more things -- a specially invited guest list and a VIP room... get fucked... bring back Jimmy Pursey... because if I remember rightly ... it's gonna be a borstal breakout |
